Johnny Depp Returns To Rocker Roots With Upcoming Jeff Beck Album
Actor Johnny Depp has a new rock album set to release in July.
Hot off the trail of his very public defamation lawsuit with ex-wife Amber Heard, Johnny Depp is already looking ahead to new projects. He and the former guitarist of the Yardbirds, Jeff Beck, announced they had written an album together.
The news came during a concert Beck recently held in England, where Depp appeared as a guest star while waiting for a verdict in his then-ongoing trial.
The news may come as a surprise to some who only know Depp from film and TV roles like 21 Jump Street, Pirates of the Caribbean, and the Fantastic Beasts series, but the actor has a long record as a musician.

Beck And Depp’s History Together
Jeff Beck announced the new collab album at his concert in Gateshead, England. Beck used to play lead guitar in the Yardbirds alongside rock legend Jimmy Page before the latter left to form Led Zeppelin while Beck formed The Jeff Beck Group.
Beck introduced Depp onstage at Gateshead by saying, “I met this guy five years ago and we've never stopped laughing since.”
Depp was invited onstage earlier that same week as Beck performed at the Royal Albert Hall in London, and is joining Beck for all remaining performances on his current tour, which included the Gateshead concert.
Beck continued, “We actually made an album. I don't know how it happened. It will be out in July.”
Previously, Depp and Beck worked together on a cover of John Lennon’s song “Isolation” released in 2020.
While little is known about the upcoming album’s content, it is safe to assume it will be a rock album, considering Beck’s expertise in the genre and Depp’s musical history.
Who Knew Depp Could Rock?
Johnny Depp can shred. With over four decades of music under his belt, the actor has got real talent and has the discography to prove it.
Way back before he achieved stardom for his acting, Depp began as a musician in Florida, playing guitar for his band The Kids during the 80s. He would go on to play in bands P and Rock City Angels.
The next decades had Depp distracted by his Hollywood career, but he still found time to feature on songs for famous artists like Oasis, Shane McGowan, Iggy Pop, Vanessa Paradis, Aerosmith, and Marilyn Manson, as well as playing guitar on several of his films’ soundtracks.
Depp’s biggest musical venture came in 2015 when he formed the Hollywood Vampires with Joe Perry and Alice Cooper. Their first album mostly covered, but the second was all original, with Depp writing and performing songs on each.
Commenting on how his music career has gone, Depp said in a 2016 interview, “I’ve been very lucky about meeting heroes [...] The guitar players for me early on were Keith Richards, Jeff Beck, Jimmy Page, and Joe Perry.”
Now alongside Beck himself, Depp seems ready to launch into a new phase as a musician. Many are waiting with anticipation to see what their new album brings.
